Calculate how many bricks you need for a wall, plus mortar, cement, and sand quantities. Supports stretcher and Flemish bond with customisable wastage allowance.

Frequently asked questions

How many bricks do I need per square metre?

For a standard stretcher bond (half-brick wall), you need approximately 60 bricks per m². For a Flemish bond (one-brick wall), you need approximately 120 bricks per m². Always add 10% for wastage from cutting and breakage.

How much mortar do I need per m² of brickwork?

For a half-brick wall in stretcher bond, you need approximately 0.03m³ of mortar per m² of brickwork. This translates to roughly 6 bags of cement (25kg each) per m³ of mortar, mixed with sharp sand at a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio.

What is the standard UK brick size?

The standard UK brick is 215mm × 102.5mm × 65mm. With a standard 10mm mortar joint, the coordinating size becomes 225mm × 112.5mm × 75mm. Engineering bricks are the same dimensions but denser and stronger.
